Roadrunners: 2

Mountain View: 1

AC head coach Freddy Drago has been waiting to see his Roadrunners come together as a team.

On Sunday, he got a good sign that his guys have jelled.

The Runners built a 2-0 lead behind goals from Elvis Rahmonovic and Brad Lowes, but the story became the defense when AC found itself two men down in the final 10 minutes. The Lions scored a second-half goal to cut the lead to 2-1, and from then on it was a matter of the Roadrunners backing up to play defense until the clock ran out.

AC’s back line and keeper Julian Ramirez consistently repelled the Lions’ desperation tactics, driving the ball back to the other end of the pitch and using up clock. Ramirez came up with a pair of key saves within moments of each other to preserve the win.

Rahmonovic scored the game’s first goal after faking his way past a Mountain View defender and driving the ball from the left side of the box into the right side of the net. Lowes got some sweet footwork from teammate Chris Burgess, who found Lowes open outside the box for the Roadrunners’ eventual game winner.

The Roadrunners stand at 2-3 for the season.
